2011 MIPA journalism awards

On April 26 several members of the newspaper staff attended the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association’s journalism awards in Lansing, MI.  Please join me in celebrating our first ever Spartan award for the 2010-2011 Eagle newspaper.  This is the highest level that a newspaper can achieve based on a thorough newspaper evaluation by an out of state judge.  They evaluate many categories such as coverage, design, photos/graphics, editorial content, and writing/editing.  Our fabulous plaque will be proudly displayed in our newspaper room.J

 

There were also several state individual awards that were given to our newspaper staff members.  There were 73 schools and 2,963 total entries in this year’s state newspaper competition.  Schools were broken up into four categories.  We competed against the largest schools in the state for the following Division 1 awards:

 

1st place- Professionally Published Page- Jordan White

2nd place- Professionally Published Page- Jordan White

 

Honorable Mention- Advertising Layout- Jordan White

Honorable Mention- Environmental Coverage- Kaila Pietila

Honorable Mention- News/Feature Photo- Julia Olearis

Honorable Mention- Front page/newspaper style- Danielle Buffa

Honorable Mention- Bylined Opinion Article- Caitlin Wineka

2010 MIPA journalism awards

Members of The Eagle newspaper staff attended the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association’s state journalism awards in Lansing on April 30.  The staff received a Gold rating for the Eagle high school newspaper and several individual awards.  The staff competed against 20 schools with 903 entries in Division I, which is made up of the largest schools in Michigan.  The following students received individual state awards for the 2010 school year:

2008 MIPA awards

Eagle staff members received numerous individual and staff awards at the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association's state awards ceremony in April. Please join me in congratulating The Eagle staff members. They received a Silver Medal rating for The Eagle  newspaper in the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association's (MIPA) state newspaper competition on April 21, 2008.   

The Eagle staff also entered individual contest categories.  There were 80 schools participating with a total of 3,330 entries.  Many categories had 25-30 entries per category.

2007 MIPA awards

All smiles. Editors from the Eagle staff celebrate awards given by the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association (MIPA) at the state  awards ceremony on April 17. The Eagle received a gold rating for their school newspaper and a Division I first and second place award for their Professionally published page in the Livingston County Press and Argus.

I am happy to report that the newspaper staff received numerous awards at the Michigan state awards ceremony today. All of the newspaper entries were divided into four divisions based on student population. Hartland is in Division I, in the company of the largest schools in the state (2256-1618 students). There were 21 schools with 808 entries in this division. Judges were made up of MSU faculty, advisers, State News staff, and professional journalists.

The Eagle received a Gold rating overall for the newspaper in areas such as design, photography, editing, and coverage. Newspapers were judged by out of state professionals.
