Presentation of Summer Novel
Assigned Wednesday, September 03rd, 2008
Due Wednesday, September 10th, 2008
In a five-minute (you will lose points for going OVER this limit) presentation, you and your group (required: for EVERY group member to participate in the presentation) will briefly “teach” the class about your summer novel. The following information MUST be included (you are not, however, LIMITED to these items):
Full title
Author’s complete name
BRIEF author background and any relevant information about how this connects to this story
Basic plot summary
Names of major characters and description of their roles in the plot
Brief description of main settings
What is the overall tone/mood of the story?
Descriptions of story’s main themes and how the author illustrates them throughout the story
What is the author’s purpose? What is he/she trying to explain to his/her reader about the message he/she is trying to convey?
Why did you like or dislike this novel? Be honest!
At least two quotes from the text you feel are worth sharing (the reasons for which may be your own, but should be explained).
What is your assessment of the author’s choice of language, organization, structure, etc.? (Here you are evaluating his/her WRITING, not the STORY itself.)
You are required to use visual aids with your presentation. These may be in the form of writing information on the whiteboard, using overhead transparencies (which Ms. Czapski will provide), and/or displaying points on poster board(s). Your classmates will be required to complete a quiz over all the information you provide, so presenting the information visually and verbally will serve as aids in their understanding and success.
