Geometry

Purpose:
Geometry is a course designed for students who are planning to continue their mathematical education beyond high school. It is a structured mathematical system that develops deductive reasoning and abstract thinking abilities. The course applies not only the subject matter but also the thinking, reasoning, and logic involved in the study of geometry to real life situations.
Goals:
- To develop in the students a good basis of geometry concepts that they will be able to see the relevance for and be able to apply to everyday situations.
- To develop thinking, reasoning, and logic skills through organized, sequential, and systematic approaches to problem solving.
- To develop self-directed, organized, and responsible learners who will value doing quality work and who will strive for the understanding necessary for authentic learning.
Grades:
- Homework is worth 40% 100-93 A 76-73 C
- Tests are worth 40% 92-90 A- 72-70 C-
- Quizzes are worth 20% 89-87 B+ 69-67 D+
86-83 B 66-63 D
82-80 B- 62-60 D-
79-77 C+ 59- E
Required Material: (Daily)
- Textbook
- Paper, pencil, and notebook
- Calculator (scientific will work perfect)
Assignments:
- There is going to be an assignment almost everyday, they are due the next day as you walk into class. You must show all work to get full credit.
- There will be at least one quiz per chapter, and a test at the end of each chapter. The students will be given several days notice for quizzes and tests.
- If you are absent the day of a quiz or test, but was present when it was announced, the day you return is when you have to take the quiz or test.
- Late work well be excepted in a timely fashion(day of test is last day), but will only be worth half credit.
- There are no make-up quizzes or tests.
Classroom Policies:
- All policies set forth in the Handbook
- You will treat yourself, classmates, teacher, substitute, and any guests with respect
- Be prepared for class everyday
- Be in class before the bell rings
- Follow directions the first time they are given.
