extra credit opportunities

Each marking period there are special extra credit opportunities available. You may do all the options each marking period.

Marking Period 1

1  Vocab in the Media:  Locate any vocabulary word from a newspaper, book or magazine and bring it into class (outside of class). 5 pts per word with a maximum of 5 words per semester and accepted all semester. No repeating words.

Random organizational extra credit:  Periodically I will ask the students to locate an assignment or notes in their binders. If the student is organized and can find the assignment in the allotted time frame, extra credit will be awarded. This is to encourage students to keep their binders and notes organized.

Marking Period 2

1. Vocab in the Media:  Locate any vocabulary word from a newspaper, book or magazine and bring it into class (outside of class). 5 pts per word with a maximum of 5 words per semester and accepted all semester. No repeating words.

2.  Write a brief research paper (1-2 pages) on one of the topics below. Be sure to cite your sources and fully explain why that topic is relevant to the 1930’s. It must be in your own words. You cannot cut and paste from the internet, and you have to cite your sources!  You will then create a visual aid on your topic. You may use poster board, PowerPoint or any other visual as long as it is creative.

• Fads and fashions of 1930’s
• Amelia Earhart
• Popular literature
• Dust Bowl
• Sports of the 1930’s (Babe Ruth, Jesse Owens, Joe Louis or Horse Racing)
• The New Deal
• Music of the 1930’s
• Hoovervilles
• Truman Capote
• Howard Hughes
• Charles Lindbergh
• The end of the gangster era (Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, Pretty Boy Floyd etc.)
• Art of the 1930’s
• New inventions
• Stock Market Crash

Not see a topic of interest? Please see me.  This project is worth up to 16 points of extra credit.  You must do both parts to receive any credit. Points will then be awarded based on completeness and creativity.  **Due Friday, October 28**
